School Lunches

At Willingdon Primary we are very pleased to be using the County Council’s school meals provider, Chartwells. Menus are available, or on display at the school office.

All pupils are asked to select their choice of meal at registration time. Children may wish to bring a healthy mid-morning snack, but please do not give your children nuts, chocolate, sweets or crisps

Free School Meals (FSM)

Although children in Key Stage 1 (Infants) automatically receive a free school dinner it is important that if you are eligible you still apply to the Free School Meals section as the school will receive additional funding known as Pupil Premium.

All applications remain confidential and if you are eligible it will not affect any benefits you are already receiving.

If you have any queries regarding this please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

If you feel you may be eligible, please apply by following the link below:

ParentPay

The current cost of a school lunch is £2.97 - however pupils in KS1 (Infants) are entitled to a lunchtime meal free of charge.

We no longer take cash as payment for school meals, we have an e-payment system to pay for and pre-book school lunches.

This can be undertaken online using a secure website called ParentPay. Please download the ParentPay Instruction guide below.

Nutrition

School meals have very strict guidelines on their nutritional content and these guidelines are met by all food served to our children. Chartwells provide a 2-course meal with bread and a drink of milk or water depending upon the child’s preference. There is a vegetarian option as well as jacket potatoes. Fresh fruit will also be offered as an alternative to the pudding.

There are regular events run to encourage the children to eat school meals, for example Chartwells carried out special event for Australian Day; they also ran events for the Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day!

We are a Nut-Free School

Please do remember that we are a nut free school therefore ask that pack lunches do not contain products with any nut content i.e. peanut butter, Nutella/some chocolate spreads, some cereal bars – please check content labels carefully.
